Caroline's Soup Evening - The New Year Party

Held at Church of the Ascension, The Avenue, Wembley from 8pm on Monday 7th January 2013.

Once again Caroline's Soup Kitchen will be opening up for another evening of culinary delights. To accompany the fare on offer, the programme of dances has been hidden within the following account of our New Year party. Some are obvious and some are disguised as pretty groan worthy puns for which I apologise in advance.

There are 11 dances and they will be danced in the order they appear in the text:

To usher in 2013, we went to a rather strange New Year Party at a friend’s house. Caroline, Mum, James and I got there at the stated time to find that we were the first to arrive. The other guests were drifting in slowly so I decided to get the ball rolling by having a dance with mother. The evening improved and after a while we spilled out of the sitting room and there was a set in the kitchen, one in the dining room with the best set in the hall.

With the party in full swing, the entertainment started – a Rat Pack tribute act from the North-East of Scotland, known as Dean Martin of Aberdeen. Not everyone seemed to enjoy his performance, indeed the local Irish priest even started working on a puzzle. Father Connelly’s jig-saw was nearly complete by the time the act finished and we started on the food.

The main course was a sea-food platter, piled high with king-prawns. Castle Catering, who provided the spread, had done us proud and the cranberry tart for dessert was sensational.

After the meal the party degenerated a bit. I spied one of my old teachers who put on a modern CD and starting bopping on his own. While the dancing master was strutting his stuff, two Australian ladies started arguing by the drinks table. They were both so drunk they couldn’t speak very fast and it was therefore quite a slow commotion.

As midnight approached my son started to flag. With James grey with tiredness and the party getting really rowdy we decided to leave before the New Year was ushered in. Missing the fireworks really upset us but there was nothing else for it but to say our goodbyes and leave.
